Gottingen Street circa. 1960

Gottingen Street was at one time the premiere shopping district in Halifax. The Glubes Furniture Store, located in the heart of this shopping district, was the largest furniture store in Eastern Canada.

The store was established in the 1920's by the Glube's family.  This family became and remains today one of the most prominent in Halifax.  Mildred Glube who owned the property in the 30's and 40's was one of the first female graduates of Dalhousie Medical School. Constance Glube, became the first woman to be Chief Justice of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court.

During the renovation of the old furniture building a number of artifacts were uncovered.  At least five separate logo styles were discovered as the store transitioned from the roaring 20's, through the turbulent war years all the way into the ultra mod 1960's

Below are artifacts found during the reconstruction.
